Last Tuesday, 29th of October, Trenca signed a land stewardship agreement with a land owner from Alguaire (El Segrià, Lleida). Its objective is to carry out actions for the conservation and improvement of the existing habitat, as well as promoting biodiversity.

The farm in Alguaire has got an extension of 42 ha. and is located in a cereal crop area in the Segrià regional district. Among the scheduled actions, it should be pointed out the restoration and refurbishment of the roof of a farmhouse where an important Lesser Kestrel colony (Falco naumanni) is breeding, probably the most important one in Catalonia, and the ensuring of the continuity of this colony. Helping the owner as regards the wild rabbit population control and improvement of the existing habitat are also planned.

Land stewardship is a strategy of the civil society for the conservation of natural, cultural and landscape values. Through a stewardship agreement a voluntary pact is done between a land stewardship entity and a land owner, in order to maintain or recover the natural or cultural heritage of the farms under the agreement.

Trenca is a land stewardship entity, member of the Xarxa de Custòdia del Territori. We have signed land stewardship agreements in order to manage the SFP (Supplementary Feeding Points) network and the project Sustainable Agri-environmental Development in Les Garrigues. We also keep a verbal agreement to carry out actions for habitat conservation and improvement in relation to the project Conservation of the Lesser Grey Shrike (Lanius minor).
